Friendly note: These directions are provided to be helpful, but there is no guarantee they will work on every device, app, or file. Please use them at your own discretion; you are responsible for your own devices, software choices, and data.
If You Already Downloaded the File
If you have already downloaded your e‑book (usually an EPUB or PDF file), you just need to open it in a reading app on your device.
- Find the file: Check your Downloads folder, email attachment, or cloud storage where you saved it.
- Move or copy if needed: If you want to read it on a different device, email it to yourself or place it in a cloud service (such as iCloud Drive, Google Drive, or OneDrive), then download it on that other device.
- Then follow the device‑specific instructions below for iPhone, Android, Windows PC, or Mac to open the file in a reading app.
Before You Start
Most Lulu e‑books are provided as standard EPUB or PDF files that can be read with many free apps.
- If your download is a ZIP file, first extract/unzip it, then look for the EPUB or PDF file inside.
- You can usually copy the same EPUB/PDF file to multiple devices and open it in a compatible reader app on each one.
Instructions by device
Find your device below and follow the numbered steps.
Reading on an iPhone (iOS)
The built‑in Apple Books app is usually the simplest way to read an EPUB or PDF on an iPhone.
- Open Safari (or Mail, if the file is an attachment) and locate your e‑book file or download link.
- Tap the file or link. Once it has downloaded, tap the Share icon.
- Choose Books or Copy to Books. The book should open in the Apple Books app and appear in your Library for future reading.
- If you do not see Books as an option, install the free Books app from the App Store, then share the file to Books again.
Reading on an Android Phone or Tablet
On Android, you will typically install a free reading app from the Play Store and open your EPUB/PDF with that app.
- Open the Google Play Store in your browser and install an e‑book reader app (for example, Google Play Books or another EPUB reader).
- Use Chrome or your browser to download the EPUB or PDF file, then open it from the download notification or from the Downloads app.
- When your device asks which app to use, choose your reader app. If it does not ask, open the reader app and use its Open, Import, or Add file option, then select your downloaded e‑book.
Reading on a Windows PC
On Windows, you will usually install a free e‑book reader program or use a browser extension to open EPUB files.
- Search the web for a free EPUB/PDF reader (for example, “free EPUB reader for Windows”) and download and install one of the available options.
- After installation, locate your e‑book file in your Downloads folder or wherever you saved it.
- Right‑click the file and choose Open with, then select your e‑book reader program. You can also set this program as the default for EPUB/PDF so you can open future files by double‑clicking them.
- Alternatively, you can install an EPUB reader extension for your web browser (such as Chrome or Firefox), then open the EPUB file through that extension’s interface.
Reading on a Mac
On a Mac, the built‑in Apple Books app can open EPUB and PDF files directly.
- Download your e‑book file in Safari (or another browser). It usually goes to the Downloads folder.
- Open Finder and go to your Downloads folder, then double‑click the EPUB or PDF file. It should open in the Books app and be added to your library.
- If it does not open in Books, right‑click the file, choose Open With, and then select Books.
- You can also open the Books app first, use File → Add to Library…, and then select your EPUB/PDF file.
Gentle Reminder
Every device and app can behave a little differently, especially after software updates. These directions are meant to be a friendly guide, not a guarantee. If something does not work exactly as described, you may need to try a different app or check help resources from lulu.com.
