Face the Fight highlights rising impact and hope in veteran suicide prevention

Face the Fight® has released a progress report highlighting the growing impact of its efforts to address veteran suicide. Launched in June 2023 by founding partners USAA, Reach Resilience, and the Humana Foundation, this coalition has united organizations to combat the crisis through charitable giving, education, and awareness campaigns. More than $85 million has been pledged through 2027, and in its first year, Face the Fight grantees screened nearly 15,000 veterans for suicide risk, providing over 5,000 with targeted interventions. The initiative has also trained more than 130 mental health clinicians in suicide-specific treatments and expanded conversations around safe firearm storage, reaching over 140 professionals and peers. What stands out is the emphasis on real connection and breaking the stigma that surrounds mental health struggles among veterans. From a Christian perspective, this progress is both a call to action and a source of hope. Scripture reminds us of the value God places on each life and the power of community. In Romans 12:15 (NIV), we are encouraged to “Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.” This verse calls us to stand with those who grieve and struggle, offering compassion and presence. This work can inspire us to follow this biblical mandate—meeting practical needs, breaking isolation, and offering hope that together, we can save lives and point to the sustaining love and eternal life offered in Christ.

The Christian Association for Survivors of Suicide Loss, Inc. (suicideloss.org) provides support to those who have lost a loved one to suicide through support groups and church support. If you are in crisis, dial 988 or 911 for assistance.
