Nevada’s latest attempt to legalize physician-assisted suicide has failed to advance in the legislature. Assembly Bill 346, which would have allowed terminally ill adults to receive life-ending medication, died after the governor made clear he would veto it and the bill lacked enough support to override that veto. Despite passing the Assembly by a narrow margin, lawmakers recognized the uphill battle and chose not to move the bill forward this session.  As a Christian organization, we recognize the sanctity of life and yet are struck by the weight such debates carry—not just for lawmakers, but for families, caregivers, and especially those who have lost loved ones to suicide, whether assisted or not. For many, these headlines reopen wounds or reignite fears about suffering, dignity, and hope.  Our loved ones’ worth are never diminished by illness or despair. No law can erase pain, but God’s presence offers hope that outlasts even the most difficult seasons. As these debates continue, let us trust in God’s compassion, and walk forward together in faith.

The Christian Association for Survivors of Suicide Loss, Inc. (suicideloss.org) provides support to those who have lost a loved one to suicide through support groups and church support. If you are in crisis, dial 988 or 911 for assistance.
