Champions of Youth Ambitions (C’YA) is offering a free, one-hour, online suicide prevention training before the holidays. This virtual session is designed to equip participants with practical tools and understanding to help prevent suicide in their communities, especially during the emotionally vulnerable holiday season. The training is open to all and aims to foster awareness, connection, and support for those who may be struggling. Personal observation: The timing of this training is significant. The holidays, while joyful for many, can intensify feelings of isolation, grief, and despair for those coping with loss, especially for families who have lost loved ones to suicide. Providing accessible, community-based education helps break the silence, reduce stigma, and encourage compassionate intervention. Programs like this reflect a growing recognition that suicide prevention is a shared responsibility, requiring both knowledge and the courage to reach out. As Christians, we are called to be present for one another, particularly in times of suffering. Jesus himself modeled compassion for the hurting. The church can mirror compassion by fostering safe spaces for honest conversation, prayer, and practical help. In seasons when loss feels overwhelming, God’s nearness is our comfort, and, through us, His love can reach those most in need. Online prevention trainings like the one offered by C’YA empower us to be proactive, compassionate neighbors. By participating, we answer the call to love, serve, and protect our community, honoring both the memory of those we have lost and the sacred value of every life.
The Christian Association for Survivors of Suicide Loss, Inc. (suicideloss.org) provides support to those who have lost a loved one to suicide through support groups and church support. If you are in crisis, dial 988 or 911 for assistance.
