UConn Medical and Dental students are once again biking coast to coast to raise money and awareness for suicide prevention. This annual Coast-2-Coast event marks its 20th year, with riders like Zach and James dedicating their summer to support mental health research through the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Their journey serves not only as a fundraiser but as a deeply personal mission—every year, more than 700,000 lives are lost to suicide worldwide, leaving countless families and communities grieving. What strikes us about this story is the courage it takes to ride thousands of miles for a cause that touches so many, yet is often spoken of in whispers. These students are not only future doctors; they are advocates, bringing hope and visibility to those who feel alone in their struggles. Their determination reminds us that even when we cannot fix everything, we can show up, speak out, and walk (or ride) alongside those in pain. As Christians, we are called to be light-bearers, especially in the darkest valleys. Scripture tells us, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:5). This promise gives us hope that no matter how heavy the burden of grief or despair, God’s light is stronger. May their journey inspire us to open our hearts, break the silence, and be part of God’s healing and hope.  Go Huskies!
