Did you lose a loved one to suicide?

‘He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.’   2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NLT

We are humbled to report that the total hours served has now exceeded 6,500—each hour representing care, presence, and hope extended to those impacted by suicide.

A Christian suicide support group?

The terms Christian and suicide are rarely heard together, but the reality is that the church and church members are not immune from losing loved ones to suicide.  In fact, at some point in their lifetimes almost half of Christians in the United States will be survivors of suicide loss.  We offer help through our ongoing suicide loss support groups.  Our organization is dedicated to bringing hope to those who have lost a loved one to suicide, working to prevent suicide, and equipping churches to do the same.

When I lost my only son that I absolutely adored to suicide, I thought my world had ended. I was and still am utterly devastated. But, as a wife and still a mother of a beautiful teenage daughter, I knew I needed to keep going. I prayed and grieved and sought the Lord for help. He led me to the website for this group. It has been such an incredible blessing for me and my husband. We both did private individual counseling and group counseling at church but find that this group is the most helpful. ~Melondy
This group has given my suicide survival experience a meaning. I never understood why but I feel in my heart God in his way is getting glory as I try to encourage others while attending group. ~K. Lopez
I think just being able to talk to people that know what are going through is a big help. We all have been through a life changing tragedy. ~Betsy S.
Suicide loss is different than others. The pain, the emotions, the confusion, the isolation are all different and we had not experienced it before. This group helped us understand and process the journey. The book is an incredible guide that walks you through the abyss. It covers everything and answers the questions you may not know how to ask. Terry and Joy have a true heart for God and people and a great understanding of suicide loss and its impact on the survivors. Having a group of others that can honestly sympathize and are in the same turbulent boat makes a world of difference. I am eternally grateful for this group. God’s unending grace and this group have been the keys to my survival. ~Anonymous

Yes, being in a survivor group has benefited me because this is the place where I feel "normal" and grounded. I don't feel as lonely in this group. It is a comfort to be among others that are learning to live with this loss knowing that we don't get over it, but rather learn to grip our Messiah's hand a little tighter as we journey toward feeling whole again. Just seeing their faces each time gives me comfort and hope and I wish I could hug each one! I love how the leaders constantly affirm us, validate us, and encourage us. They are amazing at attacking all the crud we go through such as the guilt and I am glad they are so vigilant in this area for survivors. ~KRLMB
The online grief support group of Christian Survivors of Suicide Loss was a godsend, especially when we were too much of a mess to be seen. With the shock and sadness we felt, we’ve also had to address our anger with family members who were well-meaning but greatly hindered her chances of recovery. ~ Janet S.
I thought I was alone and then I met a group of people who understood me. I lost my first husband to an auto accident in 1991 but this grief is deeper and the stigma and shame surrounding suicide make it harder to talk about.~ Deb
Most people can never fully understand what you have been through or what you are feeling so coming to support groups can give you the realization that you are not alone. ~ Nicole S.

My CASSL group has been a lifeline for me. It has been the highlight of my week since I joined it. I thank God that I found your organization and that you have invested the time and effort to reach out to those of us whose lives have been upended by a suicide. The continued reassurances that it does get better with time, but the idea that it takes time, even years to adjust to the new reality has been huge for me. You have reassured me that my son made the decision - a very bad one - to end his life, and that it wasn't my fault; and that suicide does not condemn a person to hell. ~ Michelle K.
Their support and stories of their loss helps me to trust their leadership into this strange new world in which I navigate the unique contours of this type of grief, because it is in a class by itself. To end this on a positive note, I never realized how many suicides were in the Bible and how many Scriptures may apply to suicide. One in particular blessed me. Psalm 34:18 not only applies to me, but it also applies to those who have taken their lives. The LORD is near to the heartbroken And He saves those who are crushed in spirit. ~ Anonymous
